Community Solidarity App Terms of Use
Last updated: October 14, 2026
These are the rules for using the Community Solidarity mobile app. By creating an account you agree to them, to our Community Guidelines, and to our Privacy Policy.
Who can use the app
The app is free, and it is for people who volunteer with Community Solidarity or get food from us.
- You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, use the app only with a parent's or guardian's permission and supervision.
- “We” and “us” mean Community Solidarity, Inc., a volunteer-run nonprofit food relief organization, PO Box 208, Huntington, NY 11743.
- You do not need the app to get food. Everyone is welcome at our food shares with or without it.
Your account
- Give us your real name and an email address you can read. We confirm the address with a code.
- One account per person. Do not use someone else's account or let anyone use yours.
- Keep your phone and email secure. Tell us at info@communitysolidarity.org if you think someone else has used your account.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time. Our Privacy Policy explains what deleting removes.
Community rules
We have zero tolerance for abusive content and abusive behavior. These rules apply to the bulletin board, the forums, chat, thank-you notes, profile photos and anything else you send through the app.
Do not post or send:
- harassment, threats, bullying or hate toward any person or group;
- sexual content, or anything that exploits or endangers children;
- spam, advertising, scams, or requests for money other than Community Solidarity fundraisers;
- other people's private information, or photos of people who have asked not to be photographed;
- anything illegal, or anything you do not have the right to share;
- false information meant to mislead people about food shares, schedules or alerts.
Do not misuse the app itself: no pretending to be someone else, no checking in for another person or from somewhere you are not, no automated or bulk use, and no attempts to get at other people's information.
Report and block. Bulletin board posts, forum posts and chats have a report option, and you can block any person. Reports go to our moderators, who review them and decide what to do. Use these tools whenever content or a person makes you feel unsafe.
What we do. We may remove content that breaks these rules, and we may limit or block the account that posted it, without notice. We decide, in our own judgment, whether something breaks these rules, and we may report illegal activity to the authorities. Someone blocked in the app for breaking the content rules can still come to our food shares for food, unless they have threatened, harmed or endangered a volunteer or another community member.
What you post
You keep ownership of the photos, videos and words you post. By posting, you give Community Solidarity permission to show them, free of charge, in the places below, for as long as the post exists.
| What you post | Where it can appear |
|---|---|
| Bulletin board photos, videos and captions | In the app, and on the public Happening Now page of our website, with your first name and last initial |
| Forum topics and replies | In the app and on our website, with your first name and last initial |
| Bulletin board photos | On Community Solidarity's own social media accounts, credited with your first name and last initial |
| Thank-you notes to volunteers | To the volunteer who packed your box, with your first name |
| Chat messages | Only to the person you send them to. They are encrypted and we cannot read them |
- Post only what you have the right to share, and ask before posting a photo that clearly shows someone else.
- You can delete your own posts at any time. Deleting a post removes it from the app and from our website.
- If you appear in someone else's photo and want it removed, report the post or email info@communitysolidarity.org.
At a food share
Stay safe. Never handle your phone while your vehicle is moving. The app keeps your place on the line with the phone locked. Follow the directions of volunteers and traffic signs before anything the app shows.
Checking in.
- Volunteers: use Self Check-In only when you are at the food share. A check-in may be added to your volunteer record.
- Community members: checking in to a drive-through line shares your approximate location with the volunteers at that share until you leave the line, are served, or the share ends. You can leave the line in the app at any time.
Food box orders.
- Ordering is open for a set time on the day of a food share, and each person can place one order per share.
- A box is a request, not a guarantee. What goes in depends on what was donated that day.
- You can change or cancel your order until a volunteer starts packing it.
- Please collect a box you ordered. Each person can miss two boxes in a year. The first missed box brings a warning. After the second, custom box ordering is paused for your account, and it comes back once a year has passed. You can still come for food while it is paused.
Community helpers. If you help by taking away trash, recycling or compost, a volunteer records your community member code and your vehicle's licence plate. A coordinator can decide that a person or vehicle may no longer take these materials.
Volunteers and other people's information. At a share, the app shows volunteers community members' first names, box orders, places on the line and licence plates. Use this only to do the task in front of you. Do not copy it, photograph it, post it or share it with anyone outside Community Solidarity.
Fundraising and other services
- Fundraising pages you create from the app are hosted by Classy (GoFundMe Pro), and donations are handled by Classy under its own terms. Money raised goes to Community Solidarity.
- The app has no purchases and no advertising.
- Maps, notifications, and links you open to other websites are provided by other companies under their own terms. We are not responsible for their content.
- Information about food pantries and other community resources comes from other organizations and can be out of date. Call ahead when it matters.
What the app is not for
- Emergencies. We do not watch messages, posts or alerts around the clock. In an emergency call 911.
- Advice. Nothing in the app is medical, legal or financial advice. Diet choices on a box order tell volunteers what to pack; they are not a guarantee that food is safe for an allergy or a medical condition. Always check labels.
Ending an account
- You can stop using the app or delete your account at any time.
- We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people at risk.
- Closing an app account does not by itself remove your volunteer or community member record. Our Privacy Policy explains how to ask for that.
No warranties
The app is run by volunteers and provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, Community Solidarity makes no warranties of any kind about the app, express or implied. We do not promise that it will always work, that it is free of errors, or that any schedule, alert, count, box or item shown in it is right or will be available.
Limit of liability
In this section, “Community Solidarity” means Community Solidarity, Inc. and its directors, officers, coordinators and volunteers.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Community Solidarity is not liable for any loss or damage of any kind that comes from the app or from being unable to use it. This includes direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential and punitive damages, and lost data.
Community Solidarity is also not responsible for what other people post, send or do, in the app or in person.
Where the law does not allow liability to be excluded, Community Solidarity's total liability for all claims about the app is limited to 100 US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Taking part in food shares
- Volunteering and coming to a food share are your own choice. To the extent the law allows, you take part at your own risk.
- Using the app does not make anyone an employee, agent or contractor of Community Solidarity. Volunteers are not paid.
- Food is donated and given away free, as it was received. Community Solidarity and its volunteers rely on the protections the law gives to people who donate and distribute food in good faith.
- Any waiver or agreement you have signed with Community Solidarity still applies alongside these terms.
Your responsibility to us
You are responsible for what you post, send and do with the app. If a claim is made against Community Solidarity, Inc. or its directors, officers, coordinators or volunteers because of something you posted or did that breaks these terms or the law, you agree to cover the resulting losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees, to the extent the law allows.
Disputes
- Please email us first at info@communitysolidarity.org so we can try to resolve a problem directly.
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
- Any legal claim about the app or these terms must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Suffolk County, New York.
- To the extent the law allows, a claim must be brought within one year of the event it is about.
Apple and Google
These terms are between you and Community Solidarity, Inc. only. Apple and Google are not parties to them and are not responsible for the app, its content, its support, or any claim about it. The app store's own licence terms also apply to your download, and Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms against you as third-party beneficiaries. You may use the app only on devices you own or control, as the app store's rules allow.
General
- These terms, our Community Guidelines and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the app.
- If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- If we do not enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
- You may not transfer your account or these terms to anyone else.
- If the English and Spanish versions of these terms differ, the English version applies.
Changes and contact
When we change these terms we will update the date at the top. For significant changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using the app after that, you accept the new terms.
Questions about these terms: email info@communitysolidarity.org.
