Ann Schilling, Operations Coordinator

Ann Schilling is the Operations Coordinator of Community Solidarity. They're responsible for the collection and distribution of food and other resources across Community Solidarity Food Shares and the network of food pantries, community fridges, and soup kitchens that Community Solidarity supports.

Ann started volunteering with Community Solidarity in 2021, at the peak of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Their impact in the community was felt broadly, and they quickly became leaders at our Hempstead & Huntington Food Shares.

In the fall of 2025, Ann moved from being a dedicated volunteer to being employed in their current position as Operations Coordinator. Their past managerial work experience, along with their food safety certification and fluency in multiple languages, made hiring Ann a no-brainer. Furthermore, their leadership positions in Long Island DSA and local Union movements help the hunger-ending mission of Community Solidarity reach even more people on Long Island.

Ann currently lives in Queens, NY, with their partner, whom they met volunteering at Community Solidarity.

Jon Stepanian, President & CEO

Jon Stepanian is the President & CEO of Community Solidarity the largest vegetarian hunger relief program in the United States. Sharing vegetarian groceries, hot vegan meals and clothing with tens of thousands each month is only part of Jon's job description. The other part is creating long-term solutions to end poverty; namely by developing community inter-dependance, promoting a balanced nutritious diet and fighting for social justice.

Jon is also the Co-founder of Long Island Food Not Bombs, the community that gave birth to Community Solidarity, Inc. and notably the largest Food Not Bombs chapter in the world! He has worked in advisory positions at the United Nations and the New York Civil Liberties Union. His commentary on issues of US Poverty can be found in publications like the Times Tribune, Change.org, CNN.com and the Huffington Post. It can also be heard at symposiums and forums across the tristate area where he advocates for grassroots problem solving over the mainstream nonprofit hierarchical models.

Jon has been reconized by the Long Islander's "Power List" as one of the 50 most influencial Long Islanders, he's been named one of News 12's "12 Making a Difference" for 2015, he received the "Deed Before Creed" award by the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island and was awarded the 2013 Kairos Award by The Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives.

Justin Ryan, Board Secretary

Justin Ryan is the Secretary & Board Member. Justin started volunteering with Community Solidarity in 2012 in the wake of Superstorm Sandy and quickly became a steadfast pillar in the community.

Shortly after starting to volunteer, Justin met his future wife Krystina ( who was also a fellow volunteer ). Together they started a vegan gift basket business and began donating the surplus to Community Solidarity.

Helping at our Hempstead, Huntington and Farmingville Food Shares Justin became a stewart for hist fellow volunteers, and in 2014 he joined the Board of Directors with the aim of expanding our mission.

Justin's dedication to expanding vegan food options for those in need, to help both people and animals, has helped Community Solidarity grow vastly over the past years.

Rose Zacchi, Board Chair

Rose Zacchi is the Chair of the Board of Directors for Community Solidarity, Inc. and one of the organization's hardest-working volunteers. When she's not working 40 hours a week helping disabled adults improve their lives, she's volunteering, organizing teams of volunteers collecting food donations, building relationships in the communities we operate in, and helping those whose voices are having a hard time being heard.

Rose started volunteering in 2008 when Community Solidarity was still called Long Island Food Not Bombs, and way before we became an official nonprofit. Her passion and dedication helped to grow that community and gave birth to a new endeavor, something more extensive, that of Community Solidarity, Inc.
