Food Is A Right

Community Solidarity shares vegetarian groceries for free with thousands in need.

Community Solidarity believes food is a right; for all people. We believe in compassion for humans, animals, and the earth. So to put these principles into action we organize weekly events called Food Shares. These Food Shares, which happen across Long Island & NYC, are essentially free plant-based grocery stores.

Anyone in need of help can come to a Community Solidarity Food Share and get most, if not all, of the groceries they need for the week. We also share clothing, books, toys, school supplies and other necessities.

Community Solidarity

Grassroots Social Change

Community Solidarity is more than a nonprofit; it’s more than a grassroots movement; Community Solidarity is a philosophy. A philosophy based on the belief that empowered compassionate communities can heal themselves and in doing so create the blueprint for greater social change. Essentially, we exist to put ourselves out of business. We don’t want to address hunger, or poverty, or homelessness; we want to eliminate those problems completely.

Our goal is to fight the social, economic and environmental oppressions that are inflicted upon our community and our planet.

More About Us

With help from donors like you, in 2016 Community Solidarity provided over $10,487,772.94 of assistance including over 4,102,309 pounds of vegetarian groceries! We shared other nessesities like 115,106 garments, 292,798 pounds of gardening supplies and $96,528.40 of cruelty-free hygiene products... to name a few.

In 2017, every $1 donated to Community Solidarity will allow us to rescue 328 pounds of vegetarian groceries! That's a week's worth of groceries for 11 people!

Our Mission is to build a better world.

Between people, animals and the planet, our mission is compassion

Our goal is to fight the social, economic and environmental oppressions that are inflicted on our community and our planet.

We're responsible

We record everything! The weight of the foods we share, their nutritional content, the number of people we help every week. Our goal is to record everything so we can more accurately track our progress.
