On Sunday, November 18th, Community Solidarity invites you to its annual Vegan Thanksgiving Bonanza. It's the world's largest Vegan Thanksgiving! it's free, and anyone in need of food or clothing is welcome! Plus, all are welcome to volunteer. 

Every year volunteers like you share over 100,000 pounds of vegetarian groceries with thousands of people in need at this very special Vegan Thanksgiving on Long Island. Everyone coming for food will receive a week's worth of vegetarian groceries, a gourmet vegan feast and they'll be able to select a new wardrobe from a massive selection of free clothing we'll be sharing throughout the afternoon.

The best part... you can make this event even better by volunteering, supporting or just spreading the word.

The World's Largest Vegan Thanksgiving

Every Thanksgiving tens millions of animals are tortured for a holiday that is said to be about "giving thanks" all while 1 in 6 Americans struggles with hunger. Our Vegan Thanksgiving Bonanza on Sunday, Nov. 18th, is about helping people and animals. Community Solidarity is America's largest vegetarian hunger relief organization and we share millions of pounds of vegetarian groceries with tens of thousands of people every year. 

So on Sunday, November 18th at 2 pm, Community Solidarity will be transforming the weekly Hempstead Food Share into what we're calling the Vegan Thanksgiving Bonanza.

In addition to sharing over 100,000 pounds of vegetarian Thanksgiving groceries, clothing and books - we'll also be dishing up a gourmet vegan feast made up of dozens of delicious appetizers, entrees, desserts, and beverages.

This event will be the largest vegan Thanksgiving ever and it will be the embodiment of a community that is standing in solidarity against hunger and in defiance of poverty. It's also all part of our annual Thanksgiving celebrations, read on to see all our additional events!

This thing is just going to be huge! Last year, this was the largest Community Solidarity Food Share ever! This year we're looking to outdo ourselves yet again.

 

To make this happen we need your help. Signup to volunteer and stand in solidarity! Or donate some much-needed funds to our nonprofit. We encourage everyone to participate by collecting needed items (like clothing, books, toys and other necessities) and sharing them with us on the 18th. We also encourage everyone to cook up their favorite vegan dishes and bring them down as well.

Vegan Thanksgiving Preparation & Cooking Party

 

Deep-frying, dirty dancing and treats. On Saturday, November 17th @ 7 pm we'll be loading trucks with plant-based groceries and cooking up a vegan storm at this very special pre-vegan Thanksgiving affair. Bring friends, drinks, awesome vegan dishes and MORE IMPORTANTLY - Vegan Staples and Warm Clothing that can be given out at the following Food Share - "Hempstead Food Share Bonanza".

We'll be working hard to prepare for the following day's activities but we'll be playing hard too. It's $5 to $10 dollars to get in, sliding scale, and if you're super cool you'll bring, clothing (winter clothing especially), toys, books, games, bikes, skateboard, vegan staples (canned beans, bagged rice, etc…) Everyone is welcome to a place to crash for the night and in the morning you're welcome to join us for all the craziness that is the Thanksgiving Food Share Bonanza.

Community Solidarity Caravans

On Monday, Nov. 19th Community Solidarity will be organizing volunteers interested in picking up and delivering food across Long Island/NYC into teams that will bring aid to soup kitchens and pantries. The idea is to pair volunteers together, have them collect donations of food and clothing, and have them deliver those donations to people in need across Long Island.

Thanksgiving Lunch in Farmingville

On Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd, you're invited to share lunch with Community Solidarity in Farmingville at our weekly Food Share location off Horseblock Rd. (click here for the address).

From 11am-1pm we'll be sharing hot meals with anyone who'd like to stop by. Feel free to cook up your tasty vegan dishes and share them with the hundreds of people who will be stopping by. This event is being run as a potluck so your participation is greatly appreciated. You can bring extra clothing, books or whatever else you can think of.

After a week of crazy events, it's easy to forget that we still have our weekly Food Share in Farmingville (Please note we'll be holding this Share 30 minutes before our regular time). Unfortunately, since this Food Share is during dinnertime on Thanksgiving many of our regular volunteers will be with their families, and therefore, not be able to make it. Because of this, we're asking for your help, with the Share and the litany of pickups we do beforehand. 6th Annual Black Friday Free Store

In the spirit of giving and mutual aid, and in solidarity with striking Walmart workers, the Occupy Free Store will be holding its second annual Black Friday Free Store event in Walmarts parking lot, continuing the tradition we started last year with our "100% Off For The 99%!" event.

Pies Not Bombs!

You may not realize this, but every food store on Long Island tosses out their surplus pumpkin and apple pies the day after Thanksgiving. That's unless we come in to save them! Community Solidarity will be traveling to stores across Nassau, Suffolk, Kings and Manhattan counties to collect those pies for redistribution. Last year we shared thousands of pies with our neighbors and with your help we hope to do an even better job of it this year.

Dumpster Scavenger Hunt

Did you know Thanksgiving is the most wasteful day of the year? It is and for those interested in seeing how bad that waste is; on Monday, November 26th @ 7 pm we'll be meeting up in Huntington Station (RSVP for location), for a Dumpster Scavenger Hunt. We'll be breaking up into teams and scavenging Long Island for hidden treasures. Expect dirty fun, adventure, and new friends.

This event is open to everyone, feel free to bring friends, but you'll need to RSVP for the meetup location.
