Description:
A special blackout version of our Huntington Food Share after Hurricane Irene.
Following the landfall of Hurricane Irene, most of Long Island was left without power for over a week. Massive flooding and downed trees made many roads impassible, but Community Solidarity volunteers still braved the roads with chainsaws in hand to clear pathways, rescue groceries from stores that lost power, and get food to thousands across Long Island in need.
Pictured here on Tuesday, Aug. 30th 2011, from left to right are volunteers Grace Gfromli, Vincent Stephen Cocca, Coryna Hebert and Warren Mazek distributing groceries in the darkness in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Irene at the Community Solidarity Huntington Food Share
